When I see arbitrary: - no long first nap - the mi When I see arbitrary:

- the middle nap needs to be at 12pm
-bedtime must be 7pm 
- cot naps are the only naps that count

I want to scream - I mostly just roll my eyes.

There is no need for it. All you do is make your life more rigid- which maybe you want and then that is ok! You can ignore this post.

We thought we would clarify our position and tell you a bit about when our babies stopped night feeding. 

To say it IS dangerous to do it before 12 months is not factual. To say  it is wrong for ANYONE to tell you to stop is wrong- because it is often health care professionals including doctors doing this. These click baity definitives are just wrong. 

It may be dangerous if the baby is failing to thrive, not ready and too small absolutely. It may also harm a mother's supply. But let's be clear this is not all babies. It doesn't carry the same severe risk for healthy, well developing, thriving babies. 

We don't night wean breastfed babies until a mother wants to do it and it is physically possible. It is never our choice. 

Bottles are different. Bottle rot is a real concern. Unless a doctor says otherwise, protecting oral health is vital. Rotting teeth is the number one cause of children going under General Anaesthetic. If a baby is bottle fed with a mouth of teeth it is arguably dangerous to therefore continue. 

Let's just be a bit more nuanced rather than ideological!

We know that naps are completely dropped when the brain has matured. As the brain's hippocampus develops, it becomes more efficient at processing memories during overnight sleep, eliminating the need to consolidate information during the day. Sleep regression this month, next month, next year Sleep regression this month, next month, next year and the next decade. It is a never ending series of regressions which we all need to live in deathly fear of. As you can see our own children (and I) so vividly remember the horrors of our worst 

In reality none of it is worth a second of your time, with the exception of neurological changes which happen between 3-5 months staying on top of your little ones' sleep needs and not over napping them will keep them on track.

Anytime I hear that song "never grow up" I want to Anytime I hear that song "never grow up" I want to throw my phone out of the window because I know what comes with it, is a deeply manipulative post convincing you not to change something that you are not enjoying by telling you that one day you will miss it. 

I am here to say, that whilst I love looking back at photos, I don't miss the terrifyingly hard first year of my twins. I really don't. And every year since that year I have enjoyed more than the last. We don't need to live fearing the future. We can make change and we don't need to be made to feel back for it! 

That is all!

When I first met your parents they were broken by the 4am starts and the stress of trying to get you to sleep when you simply weren't tired enough. But the second they realised, everything changed. From night one with no tears at all, through to now, your sleep is beautiful. We changed so much- feeding to sleep, the dummy, all the naps and you took it all in your stride. 

We always know when something is slightly up as those early mornings creep in, but the fix is always pretty simple and you take to it like a duck to water. 

It has been so lovely being able to continue to support your family and I hope I get to continue to see your sleep shine.

Overtiredness was a figment of someone's imaginati Overtiredness was a figment of someone's imagination. And there it should have stayed. Overtiredness is a total nonsense and it doesn't deserve any more of our time let alone be used to explain these concepts. 

Instead it is out in the world harassing mothers. With coaches pretending it really exists, mothers telling other mothers that is the cause of all their sleep problems and every piece of social media compounding it. 

Frankly if a coach uses it they are red flagging their lack of education, understanding and knowledge about sleep. They help form the Coalition of Misinformation- a group who will do whatever to protect its status just to justify their own existence. (Ahhh spelling mistake on behaviour on one of the slides! Alas!)

Sharing a room when you don't and haven't can be so off putting but as long as you follow these really simple bits of advice all will be grand. 

Enjoy your holiday, be consistent with expectations of how they sleep not so much when or where they sleep.

No joke I was constantly going to have scans becau No joke I was constantly going to have scans because I could only feel one twin kicking about. That same twin (not pointing fingers...Ruairí) slept little and still sleeps little. The other (not pointing fingers...Effie) hardly woke up! They had 4 hours difference in their sleep need! 

That means I got to know one far more than the other. That also meant that I forever questioned what was wrong with him. Why couldn't he sleep for 4 hours in the day and still do a 12 hour night? She could. 

At the end of the day each child has their own unique needs and no amount of parenting or type of parenting changes that. 

Optimise what you have because you won't change it!

More activity = more sleep pressure. But sleep pre More activity = more sleep pressure. But sleep pressure does not mean they can sleep any more. If you allow them more on this day, you will likely end up with an early rise, less sleep the next day, broken night (and this may not happen until the next night!) 

So if they feel more tired in the day due to more activity, you can allow them a little more nap time but then you need a later bedtime to compensate. 

Or 

You stick to the normal routine and accept they are more tired than normal. Nobody implodes. Life moves on.

When @jessiewesie reached out I hadn't even seen her data but sensed it was desperate. I couldn't leave her waiting until after her holiday the following week so I agreed to a consult the next day as she had all the tracking. 

The tracking was shocking. The split nights caused by an inept coach were unforgivable. Overnight we changed this. This was not a result of sleep training it was purely because of her sleep need being met. 

Low sleep needs babies are sensitive to minutes more sleep let alone hours and hours too much. 

I am so pleased for this family and so glad they have had the best time away!

People have their beliefs and seek to find evidenc People have their beliefs and seek to find evidence to back it up. When it doesn't exist they tend to just dismiss all evidence so they can say "well there just isn't any research at all" And that is one thing - total research denial.

But I think even worse is when coaches cherry pick. I will choose this bit of evidence to justify what I do here but oops this other thing is actually not evidenced based so what I'm going to do is just scream really loudly that it does exist and hope that I am not questioned. And if I am questioned, just derail with hurt feelings. 

Just because something feels right to a coach, doesn't make it right or evidence based. They have to be clear on what is and what isn't if they want to truly be evidence based.

Toddlers are feral at the best of times. Throw in Toddlers are feral at the best of times. Throw in a heatwave and they lose it completely. 

Sleep very often suffers, our own sleep suffers. But what is a temporary position doesn't need to completely come undone because you add in lots of additional support which is unsustainable long term.

Refund policy: Once you have completed the consultation you will not be refunded.
If you cancel 7 days before the consultation you will receive a full refund. 6-5 days before consultation you will receive a 75% refund, 4-2 days prior to the consultation you will be refunded 50% of the package cost. Within 24 hours of the consultaiton you will be refunded 25%.
